Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Summit is set to take place in September, where the company will introduce its latest flagship chipset for Android phones. This year, the spotlight will be on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2.
Anticipation surrounds the event as rumors suggest that the new chipset will deliver significant performance enhancements and an upgraded GPU. The Snapdragon Summit has always been a platform for Qualcomm to unveil its top-tier silicon, a trend that will continue in 2023.
Interestingly, the company has moved the event up by nearly a month, allowing tech enthusiasts to get a glimpse of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip sooner than expected. During the Computex 2025 keynote, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon confirmed that the Summit will be held from September 23 to September 25.
Among the various product announcements, the release of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 is expected to be the highlight. The decision to launch the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 earlier than its predecessor is not surprising.
Reports from last December hinted at Qualcomm’s accelerated development timeline, aiming to deliver this second-generation chip ahead of the original model, which was released in October of the previous year. While Qualcomm has yet to officially disclose the specifications for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, insiders suggest that the chip will utilize TSMC’s advanced 3nm process with improved GPU performance.
A performance boost of approximately 20 percent is anticipated. However, potential buyers might face higher prices for these Android flagship phones, as rising application processor costs could be passed on to consumers.
As the official launch date approaches, further details about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 are expected to emerge. Additionally, it will be intriguing to see which Android manufacturers will first adopt this powerful chipset in their devices.
