Spotify Jam is Coming Soon to Android Auto: Get Ready for a New Listening Experience!

Spotify is making strides to improve user experience by incorporating new social features, including a collaborative playlist option called Jams. This innovative feature allows users to create and modify shared playlists in real-time with invited collaborators, making activities like selecting road trip music a breeze. Spotify Jams will soon extend beyond the app, becoming available in cars equipped with Google built-in technology. The introduction of Spotify Jams aims to enhance the social aspect of music listening.

Previously, the feature could only be utilized within the Spotify app, which limited its accessibility in connected vehicles like those utilizing Android Auto or having Google’s OS directly from the factory. However, during a recent session at Google I/O, it was announced that Spotify Jams will soon integrate with cars equipped with Google’s built-in system. Once implemented, users can alter playlists on their phones using a QR code displayed on the car’s screen, thereby streamlining the experience for both the driver and passengers. In addition to Spotify Jams, a broader trend is emerging as media apps, including Spotify, transition to more interactive templates, similar to those found in navigation apps.

This upgrade will enable the development of a new “Now Playing” screen, enhancing user interaction with elements like custom playlists. Another aspect, termed Sectioned Item, will further enhance Spotify’s renowned content discovery features for use in vehicles. While these changes promise to create a user experience more akin to what users currently enjoy on smartphones, Google has yet to provide specific timelines for their full rollout. Overall, Spotify plans to launch Jams on Android Auto in the coming months, with the expectation of expanding to other connected vehicle platforms in due time.
