Google Introduces Three Exciting New Voices for Enhanced Spoken Search Results

Google is enhancing the variety of voice options for spoken search results in its app and Pixel launcher. This change moves away from the previously used single female voice, now introducing a selection of space-themed voices—Cosmo, Neso, Terra, and Cassini. These new voices are currently being rolled out to standard voice search on Android devices. iOS users also have access to multiple voice options, though it remains unclear if these have always been available.

To customize the spoken search voice within the Google app, users can navigate to the “Voice” menu found in the settings accessed through the profile icon. The Google app and the Pixel launcher’s permanent search widget not only provide shortcuts to Google Search but also to frequently used features like Google Lens and voice search. Until recently, voice search results were limited to a female voice, but this latest update aims to diversify that experience. Google’s Gemini Live has already introduced ten different voices, with the new AI Mode set to offer four distinct options as well.

The space-themed voices are being integrated into Google Search’s spoken results. Some users first noticed these new voice options in the beta version 16.19.42 of the Google app on a Samsung Galaxy S23 FE and in the stable version 16.20.48 on a Pixel 8. While new voices are being observed on iOS, it’s uncertain if they are recent additions. Users looking to try out the new voices should head to the Google app and select Settings, after which they can find the new voice options under Voice.

The default voice previously was ‘Cosmo,’ with the newcomers being Neso (male), Terra (female), and Cassini (male). It’s important to note that the new voice options will only be heard when initiating a search using the microphone icon in the Google app or related widgets.
