Google is enhancing the way users share excerpts from responses generated by Gemini in the Google app. The company is shifting to a more intuitive drag-and-select method, aiming to simplify the sharing process significantly. Presently, sharing a section of a Gemini reply requires navigating through a four-step procedure, which the update seeks to streamline. However, this new implementation comes with a limitation: users cannot seamlessly select text within bulleted or numbered lists.
Google may address this issue before the feature becomes publicly available. As technology evolves, Google’s Gemini continues to advance, transforming from its initial iteration as Bard in 2023 into a robust AI model equipped to assist with a variety of tasks, including research, reasoning, and coding. While the assistant’s capabilities extend beyond simple queries—enabling video generation, app integration, and screen interaction—text-based answers remain central to its functionality. Acknowledging the significance of text sharing, Google is taking steps to make it easier for users.
Currently, sharing an entire Gemini reply is straightforward—users simply long press the text and select “Copy text” from the overflow menu, allowing them to paste the reply as needed. Alternatively, they can export to Docs or share via a public link. In contrast, copying an excerpt involves a more complex four-step process. Recently, reports suggest that a new beta version of the Google app could simplify copying text from Gemini replies to the level of copying from a webpage.
Beginning with a long press and dragging the finger to highlight text, the familiar Copy and Share options would appear upon completion. Nonetheless, the drag-and-select feature currently faces a flaw that prevents it from continuing across lists and bullet points. Google may resolve this limitation before rolling out the intuitive sharing feature, although the timeline for this update remains uncertain.
