The company is emphasizing the role of Galaxy AI as a vital element in enhancing the overall foldable experience. As these large folding phones carry a premium price tag, Samsung must improve the software experience to justify the cost. Critics of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 have pointed out several shortcomings in areas deemed essential for a flagship device.
Many users express dissatisfaction with the camera quality and the performance of the external screen when the device is folded, suggesting that at such a high cost, they should not have to compromise on these features. While satisfying every user is a challenging task, Samsung appears committed to addressing these concerns. In a recent announcement on Samsung’s Newsroom, the company hinted at the potential launch of a Galaxy Ultra folding device. They noted the clear demand for larger screens and enhanced camera systems in this form factor.
The promotion illustrated a scenario where a user could seamlessly transition from composing an email during their commute to capturing high-quality photos at a social gathering, showcasing the advantages of Galaxy AI throughout the experience. However, it remains uncertain whether this new device will be a higher-tier addition to the Galaxy Z Fold lineup or a rebranded version of the Z Fold 7. Nonetheless, it is clear that Samsung’s folding phone offerings are set for significant changes. Despite the complaints over the camera system on the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the underlying issue behind the slow adoption of book-style folding phones may not solely lie in hardware specifications.
While the camera capabilities are good, the greater challenge stems from the software experience. A future Galaxy Z Fold Ultra would likely come with an even steeper price tag, making it inaccessible for many. To compete with conventional smartphones, Samsung must clearly communicate the unique value offered by the Z Fold series.
