T-Mobile is currently rolling out its satellite texting service in beta to non-T-Mobile subscribers, with users of AT&T reporting that they have received invitations. This beta service offers free satellite texting through a temporary T-Mobile eSIM.
This eSIM not only allows access to T-Mobile’s 5G network but also includes 50GB of data and unlimited texts for a period of 90 days. At this stage, the satellite service is limited to text messaging, with plans to incorporate data and voice features in the future.
The provided 50GB of data can only be used on T-Mobile’s standard network. T-Mobile has taken the lead among the major US carriers in this emerging satellite service sector.
Its direct-to-cell offering has been tested in real-life scenarios: for instance, during Hurricane Milton in October, the satellite texting service was made accessible to all T-Mobile users in affected regions. Similarly, the service was utilized again in January for users impacted by wildfires in Los Angeles.
To activate the service, invitees must download the T-Mobile eSIM profile to their phones. This allows for satellite connectivity even for users on other networks.
Users can enjoy additional benefits over this 90-day period, including:
– Access to T-Mobile’s 5G network with 50GB of high-speed data and unlimited texts. – Perks such as $5 movie tickets, concert discounts, travel deals, and T-Mobile Tuesdays offers for weekly free items.
– Ability to subscribe to T-Satellite at a reduced rate of $10 per month after the trial ends. Currently, the service is limited to texting, with future support for data and voice anticipated later this year.
