Google Makes Another Adjustment to Gemini’s Prompt Box Features

Recently, the Gemini app introduced a redesigned user interface (UI) on Android, featuring a new swipe-to-access gesture for Gemini Live and an updated layout for the app’s toolbar. This redesign reverts the ‘+’ menu to its previous list format, while the arrangement of the app’s prompt box chips has been altered. Notably, the toolbar now prioritizes Veo’s video generation tool, likely due to Veo 3’s rising popularity, followed by Deep Research. However, changes in the toolbar may not be permanent, as reports indicate that the prompt box’s current configuration is set to be revised.

Presently, the toolbar allows quick access to ‘Video’ and ‘Research,’ with ‘Canvas’ tucked away behind a three-dot menu. In an effort to streamline the interface, Google is testing a new design that consolidates all three tools into a single “Tools” button. According to Android Authority, a recent beta version of the Google app exhibits this refinement. By tapping the upcoming Tools button, users will access a familiar interface that lists Video, Deep Research, and Canvas in a straightforward order.

Selecting any of these tools will display a corresponding chip directly within the compose box, clearly indicating the mode in use. Additionally, users will find a small ‘x’ next to the active tool’s name, making it easy to exit a mode. However, a slightly larger ‘x’ icon could enhance the usability further. As of now, this updated UI has not yet gone live, and the timeline for a broader rollout to general users remains uncertain.

This redesign follows Google’s recent introduction of ‘Scheduled Actions’ for Gemini, indicating ongoing enhancements to the app.
