The June Pixel Drop is now available for eligible Pixel smartphones, introducing new features and minor improvements. However, some users have encountered a notable issue: the absence of the Pixel VIPs widget after updating to Android 16. This widget is designed to provide quick access to eight favorite contacts along with their communication details. Despite the timely release of the update, many users have reported that the Pixel VIPs widget is missing from their devices.
Even though the Pixel Tips app demonstrates how the feature functions, it has not appeared for everyone. Interestingly, a few users managed to access the widget shortly before the official June Feature Drop went live, leading to further confusion regarding its availability. Users took to Reddit to share their concerns, with reports indicating that the problem is not limited to specific Pixel models. Both recent and older devices, including the Pixel 6 Pro, have faced issues with the missing widget as users transitioned to Android 16.
The Pixel VIPs widget is not a standalone application; it integrates with the Contacts app, allowing users to pin their favorite contacts for quick and easy access. It displays essential communication details such as recent calls and messages directly on the home screen, enhancing user convenience. At this time, Google has not provided an official explanation for this discrepancy. There is speculation that future updates to the Contacts app may resolve the issue and unlock the Pixel VIPs widget.
Users are hopeful that any upcoming updates will not only restore the missing widget but might also bring additional features, such as enhanced chat and call information in contact cards, to further enrich the user experience.
