Pixel 9a’s Top Battery Feature Expands to More Phones with Latest Android 16 Beta Update

Your Google Pixel smartphone is equipped with various features aimed at conserving battery life, both for daily use and long-term health. The standard and extreme battery saver modes can help you get through the day when you’re running low on power. Additionally, charging optimizations, such as ‘Adaptive Charging’ and the ‘Limit to 80%’ feature, are designed to mitigate early battery degradation.

The latest addition to the Pixel lineup, the Pixel 9a, has introduced a unique feature focused on maintaining the long-term health of the battery. Released in April, this mid-range device includes a ‘Battery health assistance’ tool that manages battery longevity by reducing the maximum charge voltage and capacity. According to the tool’s description, users may notice minor changes in charging performance and capacity as the battery ages.

This feature becomes active at specific charge cycle thresholds, starting from 200 and continuing up to 1,000 cycles, as outlined by Google. When the Pixel 9a was launched, Google hinted that this functionality would eventually extend to other Pixel models, and it seems that commitment is now coming to fruition. The battery health assistance feature is gradually becoming available for older Pixel devices, particularly for those running the latest Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.

However, this tool may not yet appear for all users, particularly those whose devices haven’t reached the essential charge cycle thresholds. To see if the feature has reached your device, you can navigate to Battery settings within the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2. Overall, this function is expected to be available in the stable release later this year.
