Anker Recalls Over 1.1 Million Power Banks Due to Serious Fire Risk: Important PSA

Anker has established itself as a leading brand in the accessory market, especially recognized for its power banks, chargers, and mobile accessories. However, in recent years, the company has faced significant challenges, having to recall multiple power banks due to fire hazards. In 2024 alone, Anker announced two separate recalls, involving various power banks and speakers due to safety concerns. The latest recall is particularly substantial, affecting a staggering one million units of its PowerCore 10,000mAh power bank due to risks associated with overheating batteries.

Specifically, Anker is recalling the “certain Anker Power Core 10000 power banks” designated by model number A1263. The affected units were manufactured between January 2016 and October 2019 and were sold through major retailers like Amazon, Newegg, and eBay until the end of 2022. While Anker has not confirmed the total number of impacted units, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that 1,158,000 units are involved in this recall. This makes it one of the largest accessory recalls in US history related to fire hazards.

The CPSC has recorded 19 incidents of fires and explosions associated with these power banks, including two minor burn injuries and significant property damage exceeding $60,700. Customers who own the Anker A1263 power bank should cease use immediately and check the serial number located at the bottom of the device. Anker provides a tool for users to determine if their unit is part of the recall. To facilitate the process, customers will need to submit proof of purchase along with a photograph of the serial number.

For qualifying units, Anker is offering either a replacement 10,000mAh power bank (model A1388) or a $30 gift card. Customers are advised to dispose of the faulty units at a certified facility rather than in the trash or keeping them at home for safety reasons.
