Google’s Material 3 Expressive represents a significant design enhancement that many users have eagerly anticipated. Recently, various Google applications, including Google Clock, have begun to implement aspects of this new design language. Last month, an extensive leak provided a sneak peek into the transformation of the Google Clock app, and now we have another glimpse, albeit a minor one, at the upcoming changes due to an APK teardown of Google Clock version 7.14 by Android Authority.
The teardown revealed the introduction of toggles that align with the Material 3 Expressive design, showcasing a distinct departure from the previous versions. However, I was unable to sideload this specific version onto my device as the APK isn’t downloadable just yet. The screenshots released by Android Authority allow us to see the updated appearance of the app’s Settings page.
While the differences may appear subtle at first glance, a detailed examination reveals notable updates in how the toggles are visually represented. It appears that the redesign is still a work in progress. The recently leaked information highlighted a floating action button (FAB) that has not yet been integrated into the Alarms page in the current version 7.14.
This indicates that we are still awaiting additional features of Material 3 Expressive, with Google Clock version 8.0 anticipated to deliver the full overhaul, though a release date remains unknown. In addition, the earlier leak from May showcased other significant redesigns for Google Clock. For example, the Timer page will be updated and renamed to “Timers,” with preset options for various durations.
The revamped Timers tab will also include user-friendly adjustments, like placing the pause/resume button within the active timer’s circle. Furthermore, the Clock tab is expected to be rebranded as the World Clock, underlining the overall fresh approach to the app’s interface.
