Pebble’s July Revival: Your Old Watch Might Score a Surprise!

It has been over eight years since Pebble ceased operations, yet a devoted group of fans has kept the spirit of the brand alive. These enthusiasts have maintained their older smartwatches and have eagerly anticipated a revival that captures the essence of Pebble’s original charm.

Their patience is finally being rewarded with the launch of a new initiative called Core Devices, spearheaded by former Pebble CEO, Eric Migicovsky. The project aims to reintroduce Pebble’s signature features, enhanced significantly with improved battery life.

In a recent blog post, Migicovsky revealed exciting updates about the upcoming Core 2 Duo smartwatches, which are set to begin shipping in July for pre-order customers, with a wider release planned for August. Notably, around 200 individuals will have the opportunity to try the watches first through a beta testing program.

If you are among the pre-order customers, keep an eye on your email later this month for shipping information. The Core 2 Duo smartwatch will retail for $149 and stays true to Pebble’s aesthetic with a classic black-and-white e-paper display.

Its design mirrors that of the beloved Pebble 2; however, Migicovsky emphasizes that it represents substantial advancements, especially in battery life, boasting an impressive 30 days on a single charge—up from just 7 days for its predecessor. This improvement is particularly valuable for users tired of nightly recharging.

For those looking for more features, the $225 Core 2 Time smartwatch offers a more robust experience. With a responsive touchscreen and capabilities for sleep and step tracking, it enhances the Core 2 Duo’s foundation with a larger display, a more durable metal frame, and a built-in heart rate monitor.

Core Devices is optimistic about having working prototypes ready in the next month. Additionally, a new Pebble app is set to debut for both iOS and Android, designed specifically for the Core 2 lineup while also supporting older Pebble models.

Migicovsky announced a beta program for legacy users, though spots are limited and registration is already underway.
