Fitbit Feature Exclusive to iPhone Users May Soon Be Available for Android Users

It has been several months since a new Fitbit fitness tracker was introduced, but there are rumors that Google is preparing to launch a successor to the Fitbit Charge 6 this year. Before that occurs, Google seems focused on enhancing the experience for current Fitbit users. While the details surrounding the alleged Fitbit Charge 7 remain unclear, a significant piece of news has emerged from an APK teardown of the Fitbit app for Android (version 4.46.fitbit-mobile-110330687-770369387).

This analysis indicates that Google is working on a long-awaited charging alert feature, specifically for Android phones. Typically, users don’t want to wait around for their Fitbit to charge. It is common to leave the device charging while attending to other tasks, but this can lead to uncertainty regarding when it is fully charged.

Currently, Android users have to check their Fitbit periodically, causing unnecessary distraction. In contrast, iPhone users are already enjoying the convenience of notification alerts from the Fitbit app, informing them once their device is fully charged. This ensures that they can immediately resume tracking their activities without missing a beat.

Android users have long requested this feature, but it appears that Google has only recently taken steps to implement it, as indicated by code snippets in the teardown referencing notifications for a fully charged device. At present, the Fitbit app on Android will only notify users when the battery is low. Given that the app already provides low-battery alerts, it is expected that the rollout of a full battery notification feature won’t be far behind.

When it does arrive, hopefully, it will be accessible to all users, not just those with Fitbit Premium subscriptions.
