Google Password Manager may not be the leading password management app available, but it remains a popular choice for many Android users. The application is integrated into Android devices and works seamlessly with Google Chrome on desktops. Although it hasn’t undergone a significant design update in recent months, a new update appears to be on the horizon.
Recent findings by app researcher AssembleDebug indicate that Google is in the process of redesigning Password Manager using the enhanced Material 3 Expressive design language. This design was unveiled at the latest Google I/O event, where the company has been progressively updating various apps, including the Phone app, Gmail, and the Play Store, to adopt this modern aesthetic. It looks like Google Password Manager is set to join this trend.
With the introduction of Material 3 Expressive, Google Password Manager will feature support for Android’s dynamic theming system. Similar to several other apps that adapt their color palette based on the user’s wallpaper, Password Manager will now align its visual theme with other Google applications on the device. Previously, the app had a fixed light blue theme, but it will soon be more customizable and visually coherent with the overall interface.
The anticipated update will also bring a new layout, including a search bar in place of the header text and filters to distinguish between passwords and passkeys. Additionally, various Material 3 components, such as redesigned toggles and buttons, have been indicated in early screenshots. Although the rollout of this update has not yet begun, the UI is functioning within the beta version of Google Play Services, suggesting that a public release is not far off.
Users can expect more information as Google proceeds with the update.
