Xfinity Mobile Customers Receive Free Priority Upgrade to QCI 8 on Verizon’s Network

Choosing a competent Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) offers advantages such as enhanced flexibility and lower entry costs compared to major carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. However, many MVNOs face challenges due to their reliance on larger networks, resulting in inferior connection handling and lower Quality of Service (QoS). Recently, Xfinity Mobile announced a significant improvement that addresses this common issue.

Beginning July 1, all Xfinity Mobile users will be granted the same high priority level as Verizon subscribers. This upgrade means that customers will experience faster, more reliable service, especially in crowded areas or during major events. To benefit from this change, users simply need to restart their phones after the upgrade takes effect.

Understanding the QoS Class Identifier can shed light on how mobile services rank in terms of priority. Verizon generally places most consumers at QCI level 8, while QCI 7 is reserved for critical services like emergency responders. Most MVNOs traditionally operate at a lower QCI level, often at QCI 9 for their cheapest plans.

Xfinity Mobile is breaking from this trend by ensuring that all its plans will now offer premium data at QCI 8. Once the premium data is used, any deprioritized data may revert to QCI 9. In conjunction with this change, Xfinity has launched a Premium Unlimited plan that provides substantial high-speed data at competitive rates.

All Xfinity Mobile customers will receive a notification via text on July 1, explaining the enhanced priority and instructing them to restart their phones to enjoy the improved service. Xfinity Mobile’s recent initiatives reflect a commitment to enhancing customer experiences, similar to strategies employed by major carriers. With increased internet speeds and a five-year price lock for various plans, it’s an opportune time for consumers to explore affordable MVNO options and home internet services.
