YouTube introduces dynamic search carousel for exploring topics through engaging video snippets.

Earlier this year, YouTube, owned by Google, announced four major initiatives aimed for completion by 2025. The company has already started implementing these initiatives, which focus on enhancing content discovery and investing in AI tools to improve user experience. Recent announcements suggest that YouTube is making significant progress in these areas. One of the promising developments is a new AI-powered video search feature, which is rolling out today for YouTube Premium users in the US, specifically within the mobile app.

This feature will showcase dynamic carousels that present clips from videos relevant to users’ search queries. For example, searching for “best beaches in Hawaii” might display clips featuring popular snorkeling locations and volcanic beaches, each accompanied by descriptions and additional videos to help users plan their trip. Similarly, queries like “Best noise-cancelling headphones” could lead to segments from well-known tech reviewers discussing various products. It’s important to note that this new search feature will not apply to every query.

YouTube anticipates that users will primarily see the AI-powered carousels for searches concerning “shopping, places, or things to do in a specific location.” To experiment with this feature, users can access YouTube Labs and select “Try it out” from the AI-powered search results carousel. In addition to the search enhancements, YouTube is also expanding the access of its ‘Ask’ conversational AI tool. Initially introduced in November 2023 and limited to YouTube Premium subscribers, this tool allows users to ask questions about the videos they are watching and receive content recommendations.

YouTube has announced that, in the near future, the tool will be available to a select group of non-Premium users in the US, with plans for a wider rollout expected soon.
