Garmin Clarifies Data Sharing Policies with Google Health Connect: What to Expect

In May 2025, Google announced during its I/O event that Health Connect would soon integrate with Garmin Connect, allowing data synchronization between the two platforms. Initially, Garmin set a deadline of June 2025 for this integration. However, the promised syncing feature has yet to go live, leaving many users eagerly awaiting further updates.

Garmin has provided details on the types of data that will be shared through the Health Connect platform once the integration is established. The data exchange will include metrics such as Active and Total Calories burned, Cycling Pedal Cadence, Distance, and Heart Rate information among others. It’s essential to note that this will be a one-way data sharing process; Garmin will not receive any data from Google Health Connect.

The full list of shareable data from Garmin includes:

– Active and Total Calories burned
– Cycling Pedal Cadence
– Distance
– Elevation Gained
– Heart Rate data
– Speed information
– Steps
– Swimming Strokes
– Body Fat
– Floors Climbed
– Sleep Data
– Weight

However, some proprietary data from Garmin, such as body battery, training load, and running tolerance, will remain exclusive to the Garmin Connect app and will not be shared with Google Health Connect. This distinction is expected since Health Connect does not currently support those specific data categories. Additionally, because of the one-way transfer limitation, workouts tracked on other smartwatches or fitness devices will not show up in the Garmin Connect app.

While the exact timeline for the integration remains unclear, Google and Garmin’s original June deadline indicates that this development is likely to occur in the near future, making Garmin data more accessible for users.
