Google Keep has seen some updates throughout the year, but it still falls short compared to the best note-taking apps available for Android. Although it has introduced certain improvements, users are still left wanting more basic functionalities. Notably, features like collapsible headers, the ability to insert images within text, and enhanced sharing options remain absent. However, there is some good news on the horizon: Google seems to be working on a long-awaited “search within a note” function.
Currently, Google Keep allows users to search through all their notes, but this functionality does not extend to searching within the text of a specific note on mobile devices. Users can utilize the web version’s browser search feature as a workaround, but this is not an ideal solution. In a recent exploration of the code in Google Keep version 5.25.282.00.90, the Android Authority team discovered a hidden “Find in note” feature. Accessible via a menu option, this function is not fully operational yet, leading to frequent app crashes.
While this feature may be beneficial to power users, many people utilize Keep primarily for quick and easy note-taking. The development of this feature underscores the basic limitations of the Google Keep experience, which many believe should have included such essential functionality from the start. Despite the promising update, Google has still much ground to cover. Enhancements like integrating image support within notes and incorporating password protection are crucial next steps.
In contrast, competitors like Apple have already added advanced features, such as Markdown export in their Notes application, making it clear that there is more work ahead for Google Keep to keep up.
