FBC: Enhancements on the Way After a Challenging Launch Experience

The launch of Remedy Entertainment’s cooperative first-person shooter, FBC: Firebreak, faced some unexpected challenges last month. Though the game, a multiplayer spin-off of the acclaimed title Control, had the potential for success, it was met with mixed reviews from both critics and players.

While it did attract around 1 million players across platforms like PC, Xbox Game Pass, and PlayStation Plus Extra, its performance paled next to other June releases such as Peak and Rematch. Despite the rocky start, Remedy is committed to supporting the game post-launch.

In a recent Steam announcement, the studio shared plans for a fall update that aims to enhance the gaming experience. These updates include a new Job—which is FBC’s term for its mission-based content—alongside a level featuring unique enemies, gameplay features, and rewards.

September’s update is also set to bring significant improvements related to onboarding, weapon variety, and reworked job difficulty settings. Addressing player retention concerns, Remedy noted that many players tend to leave within their first hour of gameplay.

In response, the game will feature a more developed narrative introduction to the Control universe, a tutorial level, and improved in-game tips to facilitate the learning process. Additionally, weapon dynamics will be revamped, allowing players access to the most powerful versions of weapons from the start, which will then be modifiable as they progress.

Looking ahead, the update promises various enhancements including improved narrative onboarding, new heavy guns, a weapon modding system, and a revised Job selection process via a newly conceptualized Crisis Board. Moreover, a Winter update has also been teased, indicating ongoing support from the developers.

For those interested, FBC: Firebreak is accessible on PC and Xbox Series X through Xbox Game Pass, as well as PS5 via PlayStation Plus Extra.
