Samsung recently introduced its latest foldable devices: the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. As the pre-order window nears its conclusion, preliminary data indicates a strong preference among consumers for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, particularly in South Korea.
Reports from Korean outlet FNN News reveal that pre-orders for the Fold 7 account for approximately 60% of total pre-orders, with the Flip models combined making up the remaining 40%. This trend marks a significant shift from previous years when the Galaxy Z Flip series consistently outperformed the Fold in sales.
For instance, last year, the Z Flip 6 dominated with 60% of pre-orders compared to the Z Fold 6’s 40%. Even in the Fold 5 generation, the Z Fold 5 only secured 30% of pre-orders, trailing behind the Z Flip 5 at 70%.
Historically, the Z Fold series has been priced nearly twice that of the Flip models and has faced stiff competition from Chinese manufacturers. What’s changed this year?
The enhancements in the Galaxy Z Fold 7, such as a sleeker design, a wider cover screen, improved camera hardware, and being the lightest foldable on the market, appear to have piqued consumer interest. Analysts predict the new Galaxy Z 7 series could exceed the 1.02 million pre-orders achieved by Samsung’s foldables in 2023.
While these figures pertain specifically to the South Korean market, the improvements offered by the Fold 7 suggest similar trends could surface elsewhere as well. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 boasts 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 4,400mAh battery, all housed in a design that also features One UI 8 and an IP48 rating.
The Fold 7 is specifically designed for durability and user experience, showcasing a Snapdragon processor and a high-quality camera system. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 offers a compact design with a 4.1-inch FlexWindow and a 50MP camera, bringing powerful performance in a pocket-sized device.
