A small but growing number of Google Maps users are reporting a troubling bug that causes the app to crash when searching for public transit directions. The issue was first highlighted by Reddit user XenonOxide, who experienced the crash shortly after trying to obtain transit directions. Despite numerous attempts to resolve the issue, including standard troubleshooting methods, the problem persisted. Other users quickly joined in, confirming their similar experiences and frustrations.
Following these initial reports, Android Police confirmed the bug’s existence in at least one version of the Google Maps app. Users are facing a consistent crash when trying to find transit options, with complaints coming from across the Western Hemisphere, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Android Police editor Dallas Thomas was able to reproduce the crash specifically on Google Maps version 25.30.00.78516346, suggesting that it may be widespread. Interestingly, not all types of navigation seems to be affected, as reports indicate that driving directions and other features remain functional.
However, Downdetector has noted a slight uptick in complaints regarding Google Maps, which adds to the notion that this could be more than just an isolated incident. The issue has been noted on various devices, including Pixel phones and Samsung Galaxy models, indicating it is not confined to a specific brand. As a workaround, one Reddit user suggested using Incognito Mode in Google Maps, which seems to alleviate the crashing issue for some users. If you are experiencing this problem, sharing your app version and location may help contribute to finding a solution.
With these complaints now reaching the official Google support forums, hopefully, a fix will be implemented swiftly.
