Verizon Increases Fees for Activation, Tablet Plans, and Additional Services, Reports Say

Current and prospective Verizon users should prepare for upcoming price increases affecting a range of services and fees. Reports from customers on platforms like Reddit indicate that these hikes will impact activation fees, tablet plans, and certain Administrative and Telco Recovery charges. The new rates are expected to take effect on September 1st, with customers receiving notifications after August 1st. This increase will also apply to account upgrades, which involve adding a new phone to an existing line of service.

Hidden fees can transform an affordable phone plan into an unexpected expense. For instance, Verizon’s most economical tablet plan, which is currently priced at $20 per month, will see an increase of $5, bringing the total to $25. Additionally, Administrative and Telco Recovery charges will rise significantly, with voice plans increasing from $3.50 to $3.78 per line and data-only plans jumping from $1.60 to $3.97 per line. These charges are intended to cover various operational costs the carrier incurs, including maintenance and regulatory obligations, effectively passing some of these expenses on to customers.

Furthermore, the Verizon Regulatory Charge, another unavoidable fee, will increase from $0.19 to $0.21 per voice line, while data-only devices will not experience any fee alterations. This marks the second time Verizon has raised such charges, the previous increase occurring in December 2024. Customers should stay vigilant and monitor their email for official notifications regarding these changes.
