Starting today, you can interact with Gemini using your Wear OS watch!

Gemini is finally making its debut on Wear OS, as announced by Google. This AI chatbot will be accessible on smartwatches from Google, Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, and Xiaomi, enhancing the user experience with improved natural language understanding and more versatile responses. While Gemini has been available through a mobile app and a desktop interface since early last year, its absence on wearable devices has been felt. Back in May, Google hinted at expanding Gemini’s availability to various devices, and today’s announcement indicates progress in fulfilling that promise.

Starting now, Gemini will be available on Wear OS watches, including the Pixel Watch and Galaxy Watch. Users can expect the functionality to mirror that of existing Gemini interfaces. You will be able to receive answers to complex questions—like how to roast sliced vegetables—and perform various tasks within apps, such as sending texts and creating playlists. Additionally, Gemini can summarize information within your apps, including emails and texts, a feature that aligns particularly well with the capabilities of smartwatches.

In April, there were talks about a new “raise-to-speak” gesture for Wear OS that would allow users to interact with the assistant by simply raising their wrist. However, this feature will not be available yet. Instead, users will access Gemini by pressing and holding a button or uttering “Hey Google.” The rollout of Gemini on Wear OS begins today, though it will take place over the coming weeks.

This update brings a much-needed evolution to the way users interact with their smartwatches, addressing frustrations with the older Google Assistant’s rigid communication style. It’s an exciting time for Wear OS users eager to explore the advancements of Gemini.
