Samsung has recently wrapped up the launch of its annual foldable flagship devices and appears to be focusing on upcoming models for the remainder of the year. Among these is the anticipated Galaxy S25 Fan Edition (FE), set to arrive later this year. However, Samsung has broader aspirations in mind, particularly with its innovative tri-fold device, which was previously thought to be called the G Fold.
Recent reports suggest that Samsung may retain its well-known “Z” branding for this device, possibly naming it the Galaxy Z Trifold. The company has even registered a trademark for this name in South Korea, hinting at a potential release within the next three months. This timing seems strategic, as Samsung aims to unveil the tri-fold device after the excitement surrounding Apple’s September hardware event has subsided, with an official launch expected in October.
The information regarding the launch was initially disclosed by industry insider Ice Universe, indicating that Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone will face competition as it hits the market. Specifically, its release would coincide with Huawei’s upcoming second-generation MateXT tri-fold, rumored for a September launch. This positioning could turn October into a competitive month for foldable devices.
It remains unclear whether Samsung will announce this new device through a dedicated event or an online reveal. Given that this is Samsung’s first venture into tri-fold technology, holding a launch event seems likely. This gathering could also feature the Galaxy S25 FE and potentially an upcoming extended reality (XR) headset.
Currently, the tri-fold’s availability is expected to be limited to markets in Korea and China, with broader distribution details still uncertain.
