Google Maps continues to be a top choice among navigation apps on Android, even with the wide variety available. Its user-friendly interface and pre-installation on most devices add to its appeal.
While Google frequently updates the app, sometimes removing key features, it also consistently introduces new enhancements. Recent observations by app researcher AssembleDebug indicate that Google is planning updates to the information display for locations in the app, specifically in version 25.29.00.782600971.
Currently, the “popular times” section is located at the bottom of the listing, past the reviews and Q&A portions. However, this new update aims to reposition it just below the “Open and Close” times, streamlining the user experience.
Additionally, Google is implementing Material 3 Expressive design updates to enhance the app’s visual appeal. Previously, separate sections such as tickets, descriptions, hours, and website information were indicated by horizontal lines.
The upcoming update transforms these sections into card-like containers with a slightly darker background, resembling the design found in other Google applications, such as Phone and Gmail. Another noteworthy change addresses the visibility of action buttons within the app.
Options such as “Suggest an edit,” “Add a missing place,” “Add your business to Maps for free,” and “Measure distance” have been redesigned to stand out more clearly, improving user accessibility. These changes are not yet available on any devices, including the Google Pixel 9 or OnePlus 13, as the features appear to have been manually enabled by the researcher for preview purposes.
Given that these updates are functional, an official rollout is expected soon. Users can anticipate more updates for Google Maps in the near future.
