Google Keep Rolls Out Exciting New Design to More Users Nationwide

Google is enhancing the aesthetic of its applications with the Material 3 Expressive design, and Google Keep has recently joined the list of apps to receive this update. Initially hinted at through leaked images showcasing the updated search bar and various user interface adjustments, this redesign is now officially being rolled out to a larger user base.

The most prominent feature of the update is the redesigned M3 Expressive search bar. The bar has become chunkier, positioned between the profile switcher and the hamburger menu, which have been moved out of the bar.

This alteration leads to a taller but narrower appearance. The change was first reported by 9to5Google.

In addition to the layout improvements, the placeholder text for the search function has been simplified from “Search your notes” to “Search Keep.” The appearance of search filter chips has also been refreshed to match the new design. Users will still see the iconic “Google Keep” animation upon launching the app, which transitions to the updated search bar and column picker.

Moreover, the floating action button (FAB) has been slightly updated to display icons first, preceding the text labels. The toolbar has received a makeover as well, featuring larger icons set against rounded backdrops.

Buttons located at the bottom, such as those for adding, coloring, and formatting, are now circular, while the overflow menu adopts a pill-shaped design. On the upper side, the pin, reminder, and archive buttons are contained within rounded square backgrounds.

Inside the notes, image previews are also more refined, showcasing side margins and rounded corners. Additionally, the overflow menu has been adjusted, relocating the “Edited” timestamp from the bottom to the top.

This new Material 3 Expressive design for Google Keep is included in version 5.25.282.00.90 and is being activated through a server-side update. Although it is a subtle refresh, it provides Google Keep with a modern and cleaner aesthetic that aligns with Android’s evolving design trends.

Similar visual upgrades have been seen in other Google applications, including Gmail and Google Wallet.
