Google’s Latest Personal Try-On Tool Redefines Online Shopping Experience and Reduces Guesswork

Shopping for clothes online has its advantages, but it comes with a significant drawback: the inability to try items on before purchase. Unlike in a physical store where you can easily assess how an outfit looks on you, online shopping requires a leap of faith. Many people make impulse purchases, only to face disappointment when the package arrives, leading to a frustrating return process.

To address this issue, Google has introduced a virtual try-on tool that aims to enhance the online shopping experience. This feature initially launched in June 2023, allowing users to see how clothing might look on various body types. Recently, it received an update that adds a personalized dimension, enabling shoppers to see how clothes fit their own bodies.

The personal virtual try-on feature was first introduced as part of a Search Labs experiment at the Google I/O event, and it is now available to all users in the US. This tool allows online shoppers to visualize how clothing items found through Google Search, Google Shopping, and Google Images will appear on them. Users simply need to locate a product listing they like and tap the “try it on” icon, where they can upload a full-length photo to examine how different styles suit their figure.

In addition to the virtual try-on feature, Google has also implemented a price tracking tool within search results. This allows users to keep tabs on pricing for products from across the web, eliminating the need for external tracking sites. By clicking the ‘track price’ option on a product listing, shoppers can specify their desired price, size, and color preferences.

When the product meets these criteria, users will receive a notification, helping them snag the best deal. The rollout of personal virtual try-on and price tracking is currently happening in the US, with broader availability expected in the coming days.
