Two New Kindle Colorsoft Models Launch to Entice Readers

Amazon has unveiled two new models in its Colosoft line of e-readers, expanding the offerings since the release of the Colorsoft Signature Edition in October 2024. The first new model is the standard Kindle Colorsoft, which omits the Signature Edition label and reduces the internal storage from 32GB to 16GB.

There is also a dedicated version for children, called the Kindle Colorsoft Kids. The Kindle Colorsoft has sacrificed the wireless charging capability found in the Signature Edition, which was confirmed by Amazon.

However, it retains an adjustable warm light feature, which is a highlight of the e-reader. Despite the absence of wireless charging, the long battery life may alleviate concerns for many buyers, especially with the e-reader now priced more affordably.

The Colorsoft is available for $250 or £240, which also includes three months of free access to the Kindle Unlimited service. Afterward, Kindle Unlimited costs $12 or £9.50 monthly.

The Colorsoft’s color screen makes it a first for the Kindle lineup, enhancing the reading experience with vibrant images in books, comics, and library pages compared to traditional greyscale screens. For younger users, the Kindle Colorsoft Kids offers a range of age-appropriate features and comes with a year of Amazon Kids+.

This model includes educational tools like a Vocabulary Builder, Word Wise for comprehension, and the OpenDyslexic font for accessibility. Parents can manage content through the Amazon Parent Dashboard and set bedtimes.

The Colorsoft Kids also features the same color screen as the standard version and offers two cover options—Fantasy River and Starlight Reading—for a personalized touch. It retails at $270 or £260, including the cover and a year of Amazon Kids+ access.

Both new models are now available for purchase. The initial release of the Colorsoft Signature Edition faced challenges, including complaints of a yellow bar on the screen, which led to a pause in shipments for fixes.

Amazon aims to ensure a smoother launch for the Colorsoft and Colorsoft Kids.
