Nvidia Launches New Shield TV Upgrade, But Users Must Opt In for the Update

Nvidia Shield TV continues to stand out in the streaming device market, consistently receiving updates long after its initial launch nearly a decade ago. Recently, Nvidia released a hotfix, version 33.2.0.322, aimed at addressing issues that arose from the prior update. This new version particularly focuses on improving content stuttering and audio problems users encountered while using Plex.

While the hotfix won’t be automatically pushed to all users, Nvidia is allowing interested users to manually sign up for it through a Google Form. However, it’s important to note that once installed, this hotfix cannot be rolled back. Additionally, because the build is not Google-certified, there may be limitations with apps like Disney+, and users might experience issues streaming DRM-protected content.

The update tackles several critical fixes. Notable improvements include resolving night mode skip issues with DAP activated, addressing video stutters during Dolby Vision playback, and fixing playback problems in Plex when utilizing AAC 5.1 audio. Other enhancements include reintroducing the HQS/Maxrate option for USB audio and fixing USB TV Tuner issues within the Live Channel app.

Nvidia has stated that this hotfix will later be incorporated into a stable build for all users, although a specific timeline for this rollout has yet to be announced. This ongoing support is notable, especially as many streaming device manufacturers typically cease updates shortly after launch. As Nvidia continues to innovate the Shield TV with new features and improvements, users can look forward to a more stable and enriched streaming experience.

The Nvidia Shield TV Pro, known for its powerful performance, supports 4K HDR and Dolby Vision streaming and includes 3GB of RAM. Despite its high price point of $200, it also functions as an advanced Plex media server, demonstrating its versatility in the streaming market.
