Gemini has quickly emerged as one of the top AI tools for Android users, and Google aims to enhance its capabilities by introducing image-editing features. These additions are expected to bring Gemini closer to competing with other AI chatbots, such as Copilot, which have offered similar functionalities for a while. Currently, Google is in the testing phase for native AI image-editing abilities within the Gemini app.
The new tools available in Gemini include the ability to change backgrounds, replace objects, and add elements to photos. While these features may not be revolutionary, they prove useful for correcting minor mistakes in images. For instance, you could transform a picture of your pet in your garden into a scene that looks like it was captured on a beach, or even alter the color of their fur.
One of the most impressive aspects of these image-editing tools is their user-friendly interface. Users can make adjustments simply by providing Gemini with straightforward prompts, such as adding or removing specific objects or changing the background of an image. Importantly, these features will be applicable to both generated images and real photos, allowing for extensive customization until the desired outcome is achieved.
To promote responsible AI use, all edited images will bear an “ai” watermark in the bottom right corner. Currently, Google is testing these innovative features with a select group of users. The rollout is planned to occur in phases, with intentions to support over 45 languages and reach a broad audience across various countries in the near future.
While we have yet to see these image-editing capabilities on our Android devices, there is anticipation regarding their effectiveness and potential impact on smartphone photography.
