In 2025, Google Voice is set to undergo a significant upgrade, marking the return of a feature that users had previously missed. After a quiet year in 2024 with no updates, the service is reintroducing support for three-way conference calls, a feature that is now being rolled out to eligible Google Workspace and SIP Link customers. In addition to this long-awaited feature, all Google Voice users will also enjoy a revamped in-call user interface.
This new design incorporates elements inspired by Material 3 and enhances the placement of call controls, creating a more intuitive user experience. Previously overlooked, Google Voice, which has been beneficial since its launch in 2009, is revitalizing its functionality for both personal and business use. Notably, the return of three-way calling was first hinted at through code discoveries earlier this January.
The rollout of this feature is beginning today and could take just over 15 days to become widely accessible. Users can expect improvements in the in-call UI, making it easier to manage conversations. The modernized interface has simplified the addition of a third participant.
Users can now tap the Add button, search for a contact or number, and merge calls effortlessly. This upgrade is beneficial for scenarios such as incorporating a translator for multilingual discussions or easily connecting with legal counsel during important conversations. Furthermore, the updated UI highlights essential call status notifications, features larger buttons for primary actions, and transforms the end call button into a more appealing pill shape.
The refreshed user interface and the newly reintroduced three-way call support are rolling out now, with the latter being available exclusively for Google Workspace customers who have specific subscription plans and SIP Link users.
