Google’s Gemini is poised to completely replace Google Assistant across all platforms by the end of 2025, utilizing its sophisticated AI capabilities for a variety of tasks. While many features of Gemini are available for free, the paid Gemini Advanced tier offers additional benefits such as access to advanced models, larger context windows, and increased usage limits. Recent code findings suggest that Google is considering the introduction of two new, higher-tier AI subscription plans, tentatively named “Premium Plus” and “Premium Pro.” These plans may provide access to enhanced versions of Gemini, referred to as “Gemini Pro” and “Gemini Ultra,” which could offer expanded or unlimited feature usage.
In just over two years, Gemini has evolved from its initial iteration as Bard into Google’s primary AI tool. Unlike Google Assistant, Gemini is capable of performing a broader range of functions such as answering basic queries, assisting in brainstorming, interacting with applications, and generating code and imagery. While many of Gemini’s features are free, newer additions tend to be restricted to subscribers of Gemini Advanced during their initial rollout. This subscription also ensures higher limits on features, including support for Gemini’s more advanced models like Gemini 2.5 Pro.
Currently, Gemini Advanced presents a compelling option for those who receive it for free with a new smartphone, as well as for power users who rely on Gemini for their professional tasks. Google’s expansion into new subscription plans appears to target these power users, providing them with more choices. Details surrounding the new plans remain unclear; however, there is speculation that they could unlock access to Gemini Pro and Gemini Ultra versions. Instances in the code suggest that users may face prompts to upgrade to these premium options after reaching specific usage limits.
The pricing structure of these new tiers is yet to be confirmed, but they may offer a more economical alternative compared to the existing $20 fee for Gemini Advanced. Google is expected to make an official announcement soon, possibly at its upcoming I/O or Android Show events.
