Samsung has joined forces with the UK Home Office to raise awareness about Android’s anti-theft features. Galaxy phones now come equipped with security measures such as Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock. In addition, exclusive features like Identity Check and Security Delay further enhance device security. Despite Google’s efforts to bolster Android’s security system, theft continues to be a significant problem, particularly in major global cities.
A major factor contributing to the inability to recover stolen phones is the lack of awareness regarding Android’s security capabilities. To address this issue, Samsung is collaborating with the UK Home Office to educate users about these security features and urge Galaxy smartphone owners to activate them. The company has issued public safety messages through various communication channels, including the Samsung Members app, to kick off a campaign focused on Android’s privacy and anti-theft functionalities. Additionally, Samsung plans to promote these features through outdoor advertisements in key areas of London.
While these security features are not new, they are now available on almost all modern Samsung Galaxy devices, such as the Galaxy S25 series, Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6. Designed to safeguard users in the event of theft, they include Theft Detection Lock, which uses machine learning to identify if a phone has been stolen and immediately locks the screen. Other features like Offline Device Lock restrict access when a device is disconnected from the network, while Remote Lock enables users to lock their phones remotely with just a verification step. Samsung has enriched this security suite with additional features like Identity Check, which requires biometric authentication for sensitive changes in unfamiliar locations, and Security Delay, which creates a one-hour delay for any attempts to reset biometric data.
If you own a modern Samsung smartphone, it’s advisable to activate these essential safety features as it only takes a few minutes.
