The latest beta version of Google Messages (messages.android_20250602_05_RC00) introduces a new Snooze chat feature on individual contact pages. Users can now snooze conversations for various durations: 1 hour, 8 hours, 24 hours, or indefinitely. Additionally, there is an option to receive notifications specifically when you are mentioned in messages, although this @mentions functionality is yet to be implemented. Another way to access the snooze option is by long-pressing a chat in the Google Messages inbox, which reveals a snooze icon in the toolbar.
This feature is available for both traditional SMS texts and RCS conversations. Upon snoozing a chat, a clock icon appears beside the conversation in the inbox, and opening a snoozed chat brings up a banner that reminds users that notifications are paused until the snooze time expires. Users can also cancel the snooze at any time by tapping the “Stop snooze” button. Currently, Google Messages lacks a built-in snooze feature, which means users have had to manually turn off notifications for distracting conversations.
This manual approach isn’t always effective since it requires users to remember to check back on the chat later in the day. It appears that the snooze feature is being rolled out on a limited basis, as it is only accessible on one device for some users. However, given that it functions smoothly, it is expected to be available in the stable version soon. In addition to the snooze feature, the Google Messages beta also includes an enhanced media picker.
This upgraded tool offers a mini camera viewfinder for quicker photo capture and allows users to share images and videos in “HD+” original quality.
