Google has been working on a “Delete for everyone” option in Google Messages, with the first signs emerging in late March. Recently, the company began rolling out this feature to select users on the beta channel, bringing its messaging app closer to functionalities found in WhatsApp and Telegram.
Now, Google is making this feature available on the stable channel, allowing users to unsend previously sent text messages. The “Delete for everyone” feature will be visible in all future conversations in Google Messages.
However, it is important to note that messages sent before the rollout cannot be deleted. Additionally, this option is exclusive to RCS chats and does not apply to standard text messages.
To use the feature, users can long-press on a sent message and select the trash icon from the toolbar. A prompt will then appear asking whether they want to delete the message for themselves or for everyone involved in the chat.
Initially, the feature was limited to group chats during the beta test, but it now allows users to delete messages from both individual and group chats. When a message is removed, it will be replaced by a “Message deleted” placeholder.
Earlier reports suggested that there would be a 15-minute window for unsending messages; however, some users have successfully deleted texts almost 40 minutes after sending them. In addition to the “Delete for everyone” feature, Google is also rolling out enhancements as part of the June 2025 Feature Drop.
New functionalities include the ability to snooze notifications from chats for varying durations, with the option to receive alerts if someone mentions you in a snoozed conversation. Other updates consist of the ability to customize RCS group conversation icons and clear labeling for RCS-enabled contacts when creating new group chats.
