Prepare for an influx of low-quality AI content in your YouTube Shorts feed shortly.

Google’s Veo 3 has rapidly gained popularity as a cutting-edge AI video generator. This tool can create remarkably realistic videos, complete with synchronized audio and accurate lip movements, using simple prompts.

The ease of access through Gemini, available with the base Google AI Pro plan for $20 per month, has resulted in a surge of Veo-generated content flooding various platforms. Exciting news is on the horizon, as Google has announced that Veo 3 is set to be introduced to YouTube Shorts later this summer.

This announcement was made by YouTube CEO Neal Mohan during the Cannes Lions 2025 festival, where he noted that Shorts has achieved a staggering milestone of over 200 billion daily views. While Mohan’s announcement was somewhat ambiguous, he simply stated, “Today, I’m proud to share that Veo 3 will be coming to YouTube Shorts later this summer.” This leaves open questions about whether there will be a dedicated section for Veo 3-generated content or if it will be integrated into the existing suite of video creation tools on the platform.

However, given the current integration of Veo 2 into YouTube Shorts’ Dream Screen feature, an integration of Veo 3 seems more likely. This would empower creators to produce even more lifelike and higher-quality content.

Currently, creators can upload landscape format videos generated with Veo 3 to YouTube. The upcoming integration promises to enable users to directly create and publish these videos in vertical or portrait formats.

As the release date approaches, more details about the specific features and capabilities of Veo 3 on YouTube Shorts are expected to be unveiled.
