Google Docs ranks among the leading utility apps offered by Google and has recently been enhanced with various AI features. However, like any application, it is not without its flaws. Users of the Docs app on Android have encountered a notable design issue where the device’s status bar icons overlap with some elements of the app. Fortunately, this problem has been addressed in the latest version available on the Play Store.
Android users who frequently use the Docs app may have noticed that the search bar remains fixed at the top of the screen while scrolling through documents. While this functionality is common in many apps, the search bar, along with the account switcher and other elements, appears beneath the status bar icons, leading to a confusing and uncomfortable user experience. This issue is especially pronounced when using the system’s dark theme, making it less evident for those who primarily use the light theme. Adding to the frustration, this bug could cause standard notifications to obscure the search bar entirely, with some users reporting that the search bar was even partially hidden.
Thankfully, changes are underway to improve this issue. As reported, Google is addressing the glitch by introducing a darker background for the status bar in the updated version of Google Docs, making the search bar and other elements less visible underneath. This enhancement is included in version 1.25.252.00.90 of the app. If the update is not available in your region, it can be obtained from reliable sources.
Additionally, a similar inconsistency has been identified in Google Sheets, although it has not received an update yet. Meanwhile, Google Slides for Android does not require a fix since its search bar does not remain fixed at the top during scrolling.
