Google Revamps Key Menu in Play Store for Enhanced User Experience

When you launch the Play Store, you’re likely either seeking new applications or looking to update the ones you already have. Recently, Google has overhauled the app search and discovery process within the Play Store, and upcoming changes to the user interface (UI) will influence how you access some of the most frequently used functions. To facilitate app updates, users can long-press the Play Store icon and select the shortcut for “My apps,” which leads directly to the updates menu.

However, if you occasionally forget this trick, navigating from the app’s home screen can feel cumbersome. This requires accessing the account switcher menu, followed by the “Manage apps & device” section. According to an APK teardown conducted by AssembleDebug for Android Authority, Google is developing a new full-screen account switcher menu for the Play Store.

This updated UI appears advanced enough to be activated by adjusting hidden feature flags on version 46.8.29-31 of the Play Store app. The most significant alteration is the transition from a pop-up interface to a full-screen display. In this new format, any additional Google accounts connected to your device will be conveniently listed in a “Switch account” dropdown.

The scrollable menu may also allow for additional features to be incorporated in the future. Beyond account switching, the redesigned menu serves as the hub for managing Play Points rewards and digital subscriptions. Notably, Android’s security system, Play Protect, will also be found within this menu, ensuring visibility when the new design launches.

The Play Store is following suit with other Google applications like Gmail and Google Maps, which have already adopted the full-screen account switcher. While some questioned this design for Gmail, it makes sense in the context of Maps and the Play Store, where users require access to more options.
