Chrome’s Upcoming Feature: Right-Click on a Tab for Easy Split-Screen View

Google Chrome currently lacks a native split-screen feature, but users can utilize a few workarounds to achieve a similar effect. These alternatives include using dedicated extensions, OS-level functionality, and manually resizing and positioning tabs. While these solutions can help manage multiple tabs, they are ultimately just stopgaps until Google rolls out its own native split-screen capability.

According to credible sources, including Chrome analyst @Leopeva64 on X (formerly Twitter), Google has been working on this new feature since at least January. Recently, the development has been progressing, with reports suggesting that the feature is nearing completion. The forthcoming split-screen option is expected to be user-friendly; by right-clicking a tab, users will have the ability to select a “Show side-by-side” option, making it easier to manage adjacent tabs in a split-screen format.

Once the feature is fully implemented, two tabs will display in tandem within the same tab strip, each equipped with hover status cards. Additionally, much like Microsoft Edge’s current implementation, Chrome may introduce a dedicated split-screen button in the toolbar to provide users with more control over their workspace. There will also be a central handle to allow for easy resizing between the two displayed tabs.

Although the anticipated feature has not yet gone live and even remains absent from the Chrome Canary version, anticipation is building among users. For now, individuals can continue utilizing existing workarounds while they wait for Google to finalize and release this much-anticipated functionality.
