The Google Pixel Weather app has introduced a hidden play/pause button for its background animations, enhancing user interaction. Users can pause the animations by tapping the upper part of the screen, which will then reveal a play button. Tapping it again or selecting play resumes the animation.
Recently, an update to the Pixel Weather app has added a snowfall forecast card, providing users with specific timing for expected snowfall. Earlier in the year, some settings disappeared from the weather app, but this discovery of a hidden play/pause feature is a welcomed addition amidst ongoing updates that include several quality-of-life improvements. Interestingly, the button does not seem to be exclusive to the latest version.
The Pixel Weather app features subtle animations that enhance the visual experience. For example, it showcases custom silhouettes of city skylines, while animations depict clear skies, moving clouds, and precipitation events. Although these animations might go unnoticed on calm days, they become prominent during rainstorms or snow flurries, with raindrops visibly hitting the screen to create a more immersive experience.
To pause the animations, simply tap the upper area around the current conditions. This action halts the motion and reveals a play button at the bottom-right corner, which can then be used to continue the animations. This feature is particularly noticeable during precipitation events, providing an interactive touch to the weather experience.
In addition to the play/pause functionality, the latest update has also introduced snowfall forecasts and a new Save button for current locations. The snowfall card allows users to quickly view predicted snowfall amounts, appearing only when snow is likely in the area. The Save button simplifies adding a city to the Saved Locations list, although it may create duplicate entries for multiple views of the same location.
