Google has been working on a battery health menu for its Pixel phones, similar to what iPhone users have for some time. This feature would allow users to check the battery health of their devices and determine whether a replacement is necessary. Despite this ongoing development over the years, the feature has yet to be officially launched. However, there are indications that the battery health menu may finally be introduced with the upcoming Android 16 release, as it has appeared in the latest beta version of the operating system.
Currently, I can access the battery health page on my Pixel 8 Pro running Android 16 Beta 3, but it does not yet display any information on battery health or remaining capacity. Feedback from Android expert Mishaal Rahman suggests that this feature may only be functional on the Pixel 9 series and, interestingly, the Pixel 8a. This implies that even if Google rolls out the battery health menu with Android 16, it could be restricted to certain Pixel models. In addition to displaying battery health, the menu is expected to provide easy access to articles that offer tips for extending the lifespan of your Pixel’s battery.
These articles would cover key practices, such as updating the phone’s software, enabling adaptive charging, avoiding extreme temperatures, and disabling unnecessary features. Additionally, a Charging Optimization option will allow users to enable Adaptive Charging or limit their device’s charge to 80%. With Pixel phones promised seven years of updates, it is essential for Google to implement a battery health status feature. This would enable users to take proactive steps to preserve battery life and identify when a replacement is needed, particularly when battery capacity falls below 80%.
Given Google’s gradual rollout of similar features in the past, such as the battery charge-limiting option, it remains to be seen if the battery health menu will be available with the stable release of Android 16 in Q2 2025.
