Gemini Launches History-Crawling Model Featuring Deep Research for All Users

Gemini is enhancing access to its advanced features, including Flash Thinking and Deep Research, for free users, while expanding the context window for paying subscribers. With the launch of a new Personalization model, Gemini now tailors responses based on user search history and has plans to incorporate additional Google services such as YouTube and Google Photos. The Deep Research feature now operates with Flash Thinking, offering greater transparency and detailed reasoning in its outputs. Upcoming updates will also enable app integrations like Calendar and Maps to utilize Flash Thinking for more complex actions across multiple applications, enhancing the overall user experience.

Recently, Google has made several Gemini features available that were initially exclusive to its Advanced subscription model, alongside rolling out a new model that had previously been hinted at. These updates, including the newly leaked Personalization model, are currently being integrated, particularly on the web version of Gemini. Although mobile app availability may lag by a few days, users are encouraged to check regularly for updates. The Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking Experimental model now supports file uploads, and while it is accessible to free users, paying subscribers benefit from an extended 1 million token context window.

Flash Thinking enriches user interactions by providing insights into Gemini’s reasoning process, helping to clarify the steps that the AI takes to arrive at its conclusions. This feature, while not universally beneficial, does boost transparency more than other models. Moreover, Deep Research, which began its rollout in December 2024, has been upgraded with the Flash Thinking framework. Previously, this model provided in-depth research by aggregating information from reliable websites.

Now, it retains this capability while offering a thorough explanation of its thought process. Free users can access Deep Research for five detailed reports each month. Additionally, the newly announced Personalization model enhances Gemini’s ability to tailor responses to individual user needs, utilizing search history with prior consent. Future integrations will extend beyond search history to include services like Google Photos.

This allows users to engage directly with their media gallery through Gemini apps, while existing integrations will also harness the power of Flash Thinking for multi-app queries. For instance, users will soon be able to create grocery lists or search for recipes seamlessly across apps.
