Google Unveils Gemini 2.5 Pro: Its Most Advanced AI Model Now Available

Google has introduced Gemini 2.5 Pro Experimental, touted as its “most intelligent AI model” to date, which has quickly ascended to the top of the LMArena leaderboard. This model’s standout feature is its advanced capability to “think and reason” before generating responses, resulting in better performance and accuracy when dealing with complex tasks. Currently, Gemini 2.5 Pro is exclusively accessible to Gemini Advanced users on the web, with mobile support being delayed. The release of Gemini 2.5 Pro marks a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the Gemini 2.0 Pro, emphasizing its ability to tackle more intricate challenges.

Upon its debut, the model claimed the number one position in the overall category of the community-driven LMArena LLM leaderboard, surpassing competitors like Grok 3 Beta. One of the remarkable aspects of the new model is its reasoning ability, which allows it to process its own thoughts before delivering answers. Google believes this feature enhances performance and minimizes inaccuracies. In comparisons with other leading models such as OpenAI’s o3-mini and GPT-4.5, as well as Claude’s Sonnet 3.7, Gemini 2.5 Pro outshone them in areas like reasoning, knowledge, science questions, mathematics, visual reasoning, and long-context reasoning.

However, it displayed some weaknesses in aspects like code generation and factual accuracy. Notably, the model excelled in the ‘Humanity’s Last Exam,’ a benchmark designed by subject matter experts to assess the breadth of human knowledge and reasoning skills. Users with a Gemini Advanced subscription can start utilizing this innovative model now, although it is not yet available on mobile platforms. The current version of Gemini 2.5 Pro supports a 1 million-token context window, with plans for an upgrade to 2 million tokens in the near future.
