YouTube starts testing a new feature: recommendations integrated into the playback queue.

YouTube Premium users can now participate in an exciting experiment that introduces video suggestions directly in the playback queue. Unlike previous recommendations, these suggested videos do not autoplay; instead, users must manually add them to their queue if they wish to watch. This experimental feature is active until April 7 and also includes a test for 4x playback speed.

While YouTube has raised subscription prices recently, there are still numerous benefits for Premium users, such as ad-free experience and offline downloads. One significant perk is early access to new features found in the Experimental Features section, designed specifically for paid subscribers to explore potential updates and provide feedback ahead of a broader release. The latest experiment integrates recommended videos into the “Now Playing” queue.

Although YouTube previously suggested videos on the Home tab or during searches, this addition enables users to see suggestions within their manually curated playback queue. Currently, users must create queues themselves to play videos in a specific order, and only selected videos play without automatically queuing up recommendations. In this new setup, users can find a section dedicated to suggested videos in their queue but must still add them at their discretion.

These recommendations may not always align closely with the content currently playing, as they seem to be drawn from the user’s overall recommendations. However, this feature can reduce the need to navigate back to the homepage in search of something new to watch. Moreover, YouTube is also trying out an upgraded 4x speed playback option, enhancing the current 2x limit.

Previously, the platform tested higher-quality music playback for Premium users, indicating that further improvements could be on the horizon soon.
