NotebookLM is becoming more advanced with the introduction of its new ‘Discover sources’ button, which allows users to access relevant information from the web. This feature aims to enhance research efficiency by seamlessly integrating web content with existing AI-driven tools. The rollout of this functionality is underway and is expected to be available to all users within a week. While Google’s NotebookLM might not yet enjoy the same popularity as other productivity tools from the company, it is steadily gaining recognition, particularly among those in academic settings.
This surge in interest can be attributed to the continuous addition of valuable features, and the announcement of two significant updates within a week underscores this trend. Following the incorporation of mind map support, Google introduces another tool to expedite the research process. The new “Discover sources” button simplifies finding information for research. Users can type in a desired topic and receive curated web information to integrate directly into their notebooks.
This is an enhancement of its existing capability that allows importing documents from platforms like Google Docs and Slides. Now, alongside the traditional “Add sources” option, this new button empowers users to quickly collect and utilize relevant research materials. For those unsure of what to search for, the “I’m Feeling Curious” feature generates suggestions based on random topics. Users can enjoy up to 10 source recommendations, complete with explanations of their relevance.
Imported web content functions similarly to traditional sources, enabling features such as mind maps, Briefing Docs, FAQs, and Audio Overviews, enhancing the overall productivity experience. The phased rollout means not everyone will see the feature simultaneously, but it is expected to be completed within a week.
