This service is particularly valued during long gaps—sometimes extending to months or even years—between book releases, which can significantly impact memory retention of key details.
While rereading is an option, time constraints often make that impractical. That’s where Amazon comes in. Similar to the “Previously on…” segments from favorite television shows, these AI-driven Recaps deliver essential information to help readers re-engage with the narrative. Presently, this feature is live for US Kindle users and focuses on popular English-language series.
However, it’s important to note that these recaps may reveal key plot points, differentiating them from the spoiler-free recaps available on Prime Video. Available for various top-selling series, the Recaps feature is easily identified with a “View Recaps” button on a book’s Kindle library page, or through the three-dot menu within grouped series in the app. Some users have raised concerns on forums about the accuracy of AI-generated summaries. Nonetheless, Amazon assures that these summaries closely reflect the original content and are designed to assist readers navigating complex plots and character developments.
To access Recaps, users will need the latest Kindle firmware, which can be updated manually or automatically. Amazon also plans to expand this feature to the Kindle app on iOS soon.
