Google is set to introduce a mobile app for its AI-powered research and writing tool, NotebookLM, which has only been accessible via the web since its launch in late 2022. This move aims to enhance the tool’s usability and facilitate user discovery. While the company has not yet shared specifics about the platforms it will support or the release date for the new app, users currently have the option to install a Progressive Web App (PWA) as a temporary solution. NotebookLM leverages Google’s Gemini AI, allowing users to upload documents and create notebooks for easier summarization and organization.
Although the web interface has recently undergone a modernization, the lack of a dedicated mobile app has limited its functionality. The upcoming app is expected to significantly improve usability, making it more convenient for users to manage projects on the go. Its availability on mobile app stores like Google Play and Apple’s App Store could attract new users, thereby increasing its visibility and user base. Currently, Google has only confirmed the app’s development through a response on social media, stating that “The NotebookLM app is coming soon!”
However, details regarding whether this will be a fully native app or a mobile adaptation of the existing web interface remain unclear. Regardless of the approach, both methods could facilitate smooth updates and improvements. At this stage, specifics about supported platforms and potential new features in the mobile version are still unknown, though Android support seems likely. In the meantime, users can utilize the existing web app by saving it to their mobile home screens for a more accessible experience until the official app is launched.
