The upcoming April 2025 update for the Pixel Watch aims to resolve several issues users have faced, such as delayed notifications and syncing problems with Fitbit. However, it notably does not upgrade the security patch to April 2025, leaving the device on the March 2025 patch. Following the March 2025 update, which brought new features and upgraded the OS to Wear OS 5.1, many users reported bugs that required immediate attention. Google has acknowledged these issues and is now deploying the April update to fix them.
The changes in build numbers suggest that this update primarily addresses minor bug fixes rather than adding new features. While Google has not provided detailed release notes, users can expect improvements that will hopefully rectify the troubles introduced in the previous update. To access the latest update, users can navigate to Settings, then System, and select System updates, tapping the “Your watch is up to date” screen. In addition to these updates, Google has announced that the Scam Detection feature, which helps identify potential scammers during phone calls, will be available on the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 in the U.S.
This feature, initially launched with the Pixel 9 and included in the March 2025 Feature Drop, utilizes AI to enhance call safety. Users will receive audio and visual alerts if a potential scammer is detected. It is important to note that Scam Detection requires pairing with a Pixel phone, as the phone handles the detection process. The feature operates via Bluetooth, meaning it will not function if calls are received directly on the watch through LTE.
This enhancement promises added convenience and protection for users while they communicate.
