Google is enhancing its AI capabilities within Workspace, building on prior integrations with Gemini. The upcoming features for Google Docs include new AI-powered audio options that allow users to listen to their documents in standard or podcast formats. Additionally, the “Help me refine” tool will provide users with suggestions to improve the clarity and structure of their writing.
Initially, these features will be rolled out to Gemini Alpha program customers and are designed to boost productivity across the Workspace suite, including updates for Sheets, Vids, Meet, and Chat. Google introduced numerous AI features for Workspace apps last year and continues to expand these offerings. Among the key updates is the ability of Google Docs to not only create new text but also rewrite existing documents.
Users will have options to adjust tone, summarize content, bullet points, shorten text, and rephrase sections while using the Gemini side panel to brainstorm ideas and generate quick drafts. Recently, NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews feature found a new home in Google Docs, enabling users to create podcast-style audio overviews. This functionality is particularly beneficial for users who prefer auditory information.
In the coming weeks, users will be able to generate either a basic audio narration of their document or a more engaging discussion format that highlights key sections. Additionally, Workspace users will soon have access to “Help me Refine,” which acts as a writing coach, providing thoughtful suggestions to strengthen arguments and improve text structure. The aim is not simply to edit documents but to foster better communication skills over time.
Google has also introduced enhancements for Sheets, Vids, Meet, and Chat, signaling a comprehensive push towards integrating advanced AI features throughout the Workspace ecosystem.
