Google Home Misleads Nest Hub Max Users with Prompts for Non-Existent New Features

The Google Home app is currently experiencing a peculiar glitch that prompts users to configure nonexistent features for the Nest Hub Max. This issue has persisted for several weeks, leaving users frustrated as they cannot proceed with the setup or report the problem directly to Google.

This bug was highlighted by Artem Russakovskii, founder of Android Police, who noted that when users open the Google Home app, those with a Nest Hub Max are greeted with a message asking them to “Set up new Nest Cam features for Nest Hub Max.” However, when they attempt to engage with the prompt by tapping the “Get started” button, they are taken to a page requesting them to “Choose a device,” yet no devices are available for selection. Many users in a Google Home subreddit thread have reported experiencing this same issue, indicating that it is rather widespread.

While some individuals have spotted the Nest Cam features message sporadically, others, such as AP News Editor Dallas Thomas, have encountered it in the latest version of the app. Google initiated the migration of camera controls from the older Nest app to Google Home last November, raising questions about why these prompts are appearing now.

Users attempting to report the issue via the app have encountered errors, further complicating the situation. Although this bug does not appear to be critical, it is certainly perplexing.

If you are seeing the Nest Camera setup prompt on your Google Home app, there is no need for concern; it seems that there are no actual new features to set up. Users can simply disregard the notification.
